Hello WILPFers!!!
Well done if you are one of the dozen or more WILPF women who joined our very effective actions on Friday and Saturday in Whitehall and Parliament Square, demonstrating with many organisations and families to highlight the current Climate Crisis. With beautiful banners, placards, red umbrellas, leaflets and information we highlighted the role of the military’s carbon footprint and the urgent need for a Fossil Fuel Treaty to save the planet.

Have a look at these pictures and if you were unable to join us you may wish to DONATE to WILPF towards the costs of this action! Click here to donate.

A Statement on the 2030 Roadmap for UK-Israeli Bilateral Relations announcement
The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom UK Section is deeply concerned about the 2030 Roadmap for UK-Israeli Bilateral Relations announcement regarding a new trade and security agreement. While we acknowledge the importance of economic cooperation and security partnerships between nations, we cannot ignore the human rights violations committed by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people which this agreement tacitly stands to support.
In March 2022, the UN Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, Michael Lynk, described the 55-year occupation of Palestine by the Israeli regime as Apartheid. In February 2023, the President of the UN Security Council expressed “deep concern and dismay” over Israel’s illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (S/PRST/2023/1) already outlawed in UNSC Resolution 2334 (2016). The apartheid-like system in place in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which restricts the freedom of movement and basic rights of Palestinians, is a clear violation of human rights and international law. As an organization dedicated to promoting peace and gender equality, we also recognize and condemn the disproportionate impact that such policies have on women and girls in these communities.
It is crucial that any agreements between nations prioritize the protection and promotion of human rights, including the rights of women and girls. We call upon the UK government to ensure that any trade or security agreements with Israel are conditional upon Israel’s compliance with international law and human rights standards and urge them to use their position to pressure Israel to end its discriminatory policies towards the Palestinian people.
