Coordinated by 1 for 8 Billion, we have signed on to this joint letter to all UN Permanent Representatives calling for states to consider only nominating women candidates for the next Secretary-General selection process.
While the UN claims to champion women’s empowerment, women have remained excluded from its highest office after almost 80 years of an unbroken succession of men occupying the UN’s top job. We urge states to use the next opportunity to address this historic gender imbalance, and appoint a woman Secretary-General.
