WILPF Secretary General Madeleine Rees giving the 2015 Chrystal Macmillan Lecture at the University of Edinburgh

Edinburgh University’s School of Social and Political Science is hosting several days of events centred around the main themes of Madeleine Rees’ career. A distinguished international lawyer and human rights advocate, Madeleine is WILPF’s Secretary General and will be receiving an honorary degree from the University during her visit.

The title of her Chrystal Macmillan lecture is “Myths and realities: What is the Women, Peace and Security Agenda?” Madeleine will address reasons for the international difficulty in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and examine possible ways to make the rhetoric a reality. She will also take part in a round-table discussion about human rights, women, peace and security.

More information on the times of the events and other activities, including a screening of the film The Whistleblower and an exhibition by WILPF and Wool Against Weapons, is available online from the School of Social and Political Science.
